Experts discuss how connection, community and protective factors can support people living with complex mental health needs.
Loneliness and social isolation are increasingly recognised as significant factors affecting mental health, particularly for people living with complex and persistent mental health needs. Connection, belonging, and supportive communities play a vital role in promoting recovery, resilience, and long-term wellbeing.
This webinar brings together perspectives from policy leadership, sector representation, and lived experience to explore how social connection and community protective factors can strengthen support for people with complex mental health needs.
The discussion will feature insights from:
John Feneley – Inaugural NSW Mental Health Commissioner and Deputy President of the Mental Health Tribunal,
Carolyn Nikoloski – CEO, Mental Health Australia
Giancarlo de Vera – CEO, Being (NSW) - Chair, Inclusion (Disability) Advisory Panel, City of Sydney
The session will be chaired by Bill Campos, CEO of ICLA, a clinical psychologist and mental health leader with extensive experience supporting people with complex mental health needs.
Together, the panel will reflect on the impact of loneliness, the importance of meaningful relationships, and the role services and communities can play in creating environments where people feel supported and connected.
The webinar will also highlight insights connected to ICLA’s work in the Bondi region, including the growing recognition of Bondi PARC, and forms part of ICLA’s broader reflection as the organisation approaches 40 years of supporting people with complex mental health needs.
